🇯🇵Sakura: Are We Too Late or Just in Time?
A short sprint to our Japanese adventure. Thanks to global warming, Sakura (Cherry Blossom) season came early and our once perfectly timed trip started 10 days too late.
Moments of the Week (Mar 27 -Apr 2)
Getting to Japan was seamless until we hit 2 hours of Japanese immigration switchbacks.Â
Feris got lost for 15 solid minutes just outside Ueno station amongst swarms of people. We formed a 7 person search party and founder her in tears as locals tried to console her.
Getting used to all inclusive toilets, kindergarten sized bathroom fixtures, no napkins, and no garbages.
When we aren’t enjoying the efficient, inexpensive and high quality quick service restaurants, we are going wild at the 7-11s and Family Marts for drinks and snacks. Loving the warm fridges and favorable exchange rates.
Forget Internet cafes. Jero has discovered arcades with whole floors dedicated to different games: Prizes, Medal, Video, Music and Drive.
Hung out for 30 hours with our friends from Berlin, the Yoshiis. Made the most of it with must do tourist sites: Shibuya (the famous cross walk) Takeshita Street (where the cool kids stroll), Sensoji Temple and even a picnic at the park amongst the falling Sakura.
Did I mention that there are a lot of people here? Tourists are flooding back in and Japan is exploding out of isolation. It was only three weeks ago that masks were mandated everywhere.
On The Move
Run With Me on Strava - 49.96 mi, 3,048 ft Elevation
Sore legs all week and I tried not to do anything stupid while I recovered. How do I keep running interesting?
Created two new local DB challenge segments:
La Vista Vengeance - a short hill loop that can be done multiple times for training.
Siena Hill Pyramid of Pain (PoP) - A ladder with 4 different check points and a total of 1000ft of elevation gain.
I also started and finished an audio book, Cloud Cukoo Land.
And when I got to Japan, there was so much to see. It usually involves looking on Google Maps for a park destination and sightseeing along the way. These gardens are already next level and the Sakura is just making everything sweeter.
