Moments (Oct 21-27)
Hung out with Travis S. in Denver. He has been stateside for three years and it was helpful to hear about his transition back from Berlin. We planted the seeds for a future family trip.
My dad installed a new ceiling light in Lea’s room. I think it looks tacky, but Lea seems to think it is perfect and that’s what matters.
Jero’s water polo season is wrapping up and his team used this week to water wrestle and play sharks and minnows. He is plotting how he’ll use the off season to get better. JV Captain next year?
If both Feris and Maricar recommend a book, then I have to read it. The Wishtree, according to Feris, is Applegate’s best book.
Lea turned 13 on Thursday…
Lea: Never Wrong, Always Bold
·Lea was the kind of person who saw a challenge and dove in headfirst—literally. After watching a YouTube video, she radiated confidence and went for a handspring into a back tuck. She didn’t make it and that was her death. But give her credit—she never hesitated to try, even if it meant failing gloriously.

Started and ended the week with tired legs.
I spent Tuesday-Friday in Denver which allowed me to “train at elevation”. Not sure I felt it.
Thursday’s Workout called for a 3x8 mins at a 10k pace followed by 8x1min at a 5k pace. I wasn’t able to hit pace so I went by percieved effort. Afterwards, I felt okay until a sneezing frenzy took over. I pushed too hard and my immune system was compromised for the rest of the day.
On Saturday, I volunteered with Inside Trails at Oakland Hills. I brought Jero along. 5am wake up call to arrive at Chabot Space and Science Center at 6. After we provided the muscle to set up the registration, food, and starting line, we jogged the 10k course to make sure it was still properly marked. With steep descents and climbs, it was tough. Both of us rolled an ankle at some point. I’m looking forward to more volunteering and some racing with inside trails. Last time we did something similar was in the hills of Lake Chabot, 6 years ago. We were assigned sweeping duties and trailed the last runner while we picked up all the course markers on a cold and flooded course.
Came into Sunday with 52+ miles. I was feeling under the weather so I slept in until 6:30 and was out the door by 7. Based on feel, I planned on 8 miles to get to a solid 60 for the week. Kept the legs moving and completed my usual long trail loop - just under 20. The overcast weather helped with the back half.
Laughed when my weekly mileage finished at 72 on the dot.

Those trails look treacherous!
